I like how this simple pokemon joke comic brings us from Chomsky’s example of how free will and order can arise from a materialist universe via the example of language(and thus, that materialism is not wholly and inherently deterministic) all the way back to Plato, 2000+ years ago, stupidly arguing that you’re born knowing everything, learning is impossible, and all knowledge is just memory from a pre-existence union with Perfect/Ideal Divinity.
i love cishets and their somewhat ugly pride merch that lets us know they're at least fairly safe to be around i'm serious. like genuinely being like 13 and seeing random adults at the store in black "love is love" shirts where every letter is a different pride flag and the whole thing clashes horribly was the most comforting thing.

I was just at the summer school organized by the very people mentioned in the article who told us about the find a day before it was officially announced, but they couldn't really tell us much about it yet. We did see a picture of the tablet (but couldn't take photos of course), but unfortunately I sat in the back and could only really follow what was pointed out – Prof. Schwemer commented that he suspects the introductory part to the passage should have said URUKalašmili rather than URUKalašmi, (-ili as the adverbial suffix used for languages),* some people also recognized the word for 'eye', completely identical to Cuneiform Luwian, which is one of the indications why it might belong to the Luwic branch.
This is the tablet no. 26 found in Boğazköy this year (which has been surprisingly productive, in previous years sometimes only 4 or 5 tablets were found in the whole year) and the detailed analysis of the finds – including this tablet – will be published some time in March of next year.
*It is important to note then that it is not (just) modern-day linguists identifying the text as belonging to a distinct dialect – distinct enough to consider it a language –, but also the Hittites themselves identifying it as a distinct reality (cf. the situation with Kanišite Hittite, an Anatolian (possibly Hittite) chronolect preceeding the attested Anatolian languages, based on the anthroponymic material from the documents of the Assyrian merchant colonies in Anatolia, where the limitations with regards to that are obvious).
